Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Amazing fast food place great for a quick bite and shake. Amazing cheese fries and onion rings. Would highly recommend especially if in town for a sporting tournament. Would be a place that you would return every time you're in Rockford. Everything on the menu is a homerun can't go wrong with a burger at baked potato when it's cold out.

This place is pretty good and Likely the best looking Beef and Roos. This is pace I have ony seen in this area and the inside was very ore upscale than I thought it would look. The food is basic sandwich and burger grill but tasty with a medium size menu and a large workforce getting your order and food quickly. Great seating and lighting along with a good self-service soda fountain. They should expand to Chicago and Mil Town.

I've been going to this place for four days in a row!!! Mint shake is awesome it's like having a shamrock shake everyday!!!! Cheese fries come in a cup!!! Yummy!!! Always so clean when I go there!!! Friendly staff!!!

I've been to a couple Roos around the Rockford area, but this one more than others. This place reminds me of an upscale Arby's, which will probably get me killed by my girlfriend. They carry roast beef sandwiches, along with deli sandwiches, salads, and wraps. The fries here are top notch fast food fries, and definitely helped by the celery salt they offer. I also like how they bring you an Andes mint to you after your meal. It's worth going around town as every Beef-A-Roo is themed differently. This one is more of a modern brick building, but just up the street you can find a large wood cabin Beef-A-Roo. My only complaint is that the menus are pretty non-descript. I find myself always asking what certain things are, and last time my girlfriend thought she was ordering her favorite item, but they had changed it on her and she was pretty disappointed. Some descriptions can help.

I was kind of disappointed because I was told that this is the "Portillo's of Rockford" so I went in expecting Portillo's. I got the Italian beef sandwich, and I got Italian beef of a soggy burger bun, not on french bread or anything. On the other hand the cheese fries were good and over all the prices were very reasonable.

I hated the name Beef-A-Roo, when I first heard of it. Their food doesn't describe their name. From the fries with extra salt to beer battered onion rings to the kale salad to the chicken fingers...so good! I love the salad (healthy) choices at this place. Though I am tempted by the bad food, the healthy food is quite tasty. The service at this Beef-A-Roo has much to be desired, but as long as the food is good, I will give it a five star.

This place is just as Rockford as Cheap Trick or The Symbol. The healthier food is amazing. The fries are legendary.

Had the family in town (3 adults, 2 kids), and needed a quick place to grab a bite to eat. Beef-A-Roo delivered on that need. While this IS fast food, it was pretty darn good. That said, the best part of the meal was definitely the chocolate shake!

Think "upscale Arby's. Great fries. Beef-n-Cheddar same as Arby's. Great fast / casual model. Worth another trip.

Sooo...to add to my previous "Ode to Beef"... The cheese fries with the core of cheese are a must-order. Don't even mess with the small one. Trust me. And also? Get a milkshake. They use milk. And ice cream. And a real milkshake machine. Suck on that McDonalds. (Pshaw, like you needed another reason to go to Beef A Roo, right?)

It's probably not completely fair to rate a place called Beef-A-Roo on their Turkey Bacon Club but I'd say this place is average at best from my experience and everyone who was in my party seemed to agree. It wasn't a bad meal but once was enough for me, I'll try somewhere else next time.

My friends asked me why the hell I was hanging out in Rockford. Because Cheddar Fries. End review. Obviously, just kidding. It might kill me to write a review any less than 4,000 characters... and I actually think I'd responded, 'Because Adventure.' But Cheddar Fries and Adventure go hand-in-hand so I think the one explanation begets the other. Truth: The best part of my weekend was my visit to Beef-A-Roo. I think I told everyone I saw that I got to go here. There may even have been a few texts sent in honor of eating here. It's been several years since I've had legit fast food so I was instructed to get the Cheddar Fries, as apparently that's one of *the* things to do here, and that advice could not have been more spot on. I got a large because my company told me to get a small, and I can only take so much instruction at a time. At first I was a tad disappoint when I only saw what looked like a small-ish glob of cheese on top of a cup filled with fries, but then I realized that the entire core of the cup was full of cheese, all the way down to the bottom, so I didn't get bamboozled like when you go to the movie theater and they only only put the butter squirt on the top later... which is total bullsh*t. The goodness didn't stop with the gelatinous cheddar core (the most American kind of core there is). I turned around to see a condiment station and fountain soda bar that had complimentary sliced jalapenos! I piled those bad boys into a paper cup, grabbed a packet of Beef-A-Roo's horseradish sauce and barbecue sauce and sat my ass down... oh, and I got a salad but I know that's the least of anyone's interest, so I'll save that for later. This place is immaculately clean and features art from local artists. The inside, which I was told got a makeover is surprisingly swanky with oversized black pleather booths, brick fireplaces (inside and on patio out front - ooh la la) and dimly lit for mood, not so dark that you can't see everything, but just enough so you'll look a little better than you probably do in normal, outside of Beef-A-Roo life. They have a new 'skinny menu' with some fairly artisan-type offerings that are low on calories. I still recommend you get a large cheddar fry to go with whatever you order though. I love beets so I ordered the beet salad with really fresh tasting REAL Gorgonzola cheese. I felt like my fries and salad were a bit pricey at $9 and some change, but I managed to get full even while splitting the salad with one of my dining partners. The salad came with beets, spinach, thin orange slices, craisins and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing packet that I used sparsely, as the salad was good enough without. It didn't feel like a fast food item at all, in the best possible way. They sealed the 5-Star deal with super friendly, clean cut service that ended with a young man walking around to each table close to the end of our meal, offering us either a small mint or chocolate. "I'll take the Andes minty chocolate please." ... as my company had to pry me from the booth, not wanting to leave the confines of a magical place called Beef-A-Roo.

My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way back from a camping trip. We chose this place because of the rave reviews. We both agreed it was just average. The restaurant itself was very clean, nicely decorated but the food was... Eh. I got the Reuben burger, the meat wasn't horrible but more like McDonalds quality. My boyfriend got the pulled pork and said it lacked flavor. We just ate the sandwiches because we were really hungry but there was nothing exciting happening in our mouths. The malt I had was very good, the vanilla shake he had was too lumpy to sip. The onion rings were pretty yummy too, but I wouldn't go to a restaurant just for the side dishes.

This is a fast food restaurants that is cooked to order. Cheese fries has made it famous and so has its style for every location. For example try the 60's on Riverside or a Beef A Roo that was build in a old fire station. When I visit Rockford Beef A Roo is always on the list.

When in Rockford or Passing through, make it a point to stop at Beef a Roo. Get the Green River Soda. Get the Cheese fries. Get the Roast Beef w/ chesse. Everything else is good, but its these three that make this place a standout.

  • John R.

Basically if you're going to Beef-A-Roo you're first thinking about the cheese fries, oh those glorious cheese fries. Then you're thinking about their signature roast beef sandwiches which I agree with another reviewer that it definitely reigns supreme to Arby's. Then after that you're probably thinking about those cheese fries again. Trust me, you need to try the cheese fries.
